Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about using Hide in My Heart for Bible memorization.
Is Hide in My Heart free to use?
Yes, completely free. There is no account, no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no advertising. The site is funded as a small personal project, not a business.
Which Bible translations are supported?
The King James Version (KJV) and the World English Bible (WEB). Both are public domain. You can switch translations at any time using the toggle in the header. The WEB is a modern-English public-domain translation widely used when copyright restrictions on contemporary translations would otherwise apply.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Practice history and favorites are stored locally in your browser. Nothing about your practice is sent to a server, and there is nothing to log in to.
Does the app work offline?
Yes, after the first visit. All Bible text for both translations is bundled and cached locally, so once a chapter is loaded it remains available without a connection. The site is also installable as a Progressive Web App on phones and desktops for an app-like offline experience.
How are blanks chosen for each difficulty?
Easy hides about 20% of words, Normal about 40%, and Hard about 60%. Common articles like "the", "a", and "an" are skipped because they would not test recall meaningfully. The blanked words are weighted toward content-bearing nouns, verbs, and proper names — the words you most need to retrieve to actually "have" the verse. The selection is deterministic per session so you can compare runs against each other.
Can I memorize a verse not listed on a landing page?
Yes. The app supports every verse in all 66 books of both supported translations. The 100 featured landing pages are simply the most-searched verses across major memorization lists; they are not a limit on what you can practice.
Is my practice history saved?
Yes — locally, in your browser, using IndexedDB. You can mark verses as favorites and view your practice history at any time. Clearing your browser storage will erase this data; the app does not back up to a server.
Can I add the app to my phone's home screen?
Yes. On iOS Safari, tap the share button and choose "Add to Home Screen." On Android Chrome, look for the install prompt or use the menu's "Install app" option. The installed app behaves like a native app and works offline.
Is there a Verse of the Day?
Yes. The home screen shows a daily verse you can begin memorizing with one tap. The selection rotates through the featured verse list.
How do you protect my privacy?
The app does not require an account and stores practice data locally only. The only third-party request the site makes during normal use is Google Analytics for aggregate traffic measurement. There is no advertising or data brokerage.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Use the "Ask" link in the footer to email the maintainer directly. Bug reports and feature requests are read personally. Please include the verse and translation you were practicing if you are reporting a content issue, and the device and browser if you are reporting a bug — that information makes the fix much faster.
Is this app affiliated with a church or denomination?
No. The app is non-denominational and is designed to work for any Christian who wants to memorize scripture. Both supported translations are widely used across denominations.
